Art 1 Final Portfolio

1.  My favorite project and i think one of my most successful ones was the anamorphasis drawing.  The way this project works makes it one of my favorites in how it looks like it is standing up off of the page.  I think i did a good job in drawing it on the page to make it look that way.  I also feel that i was successful in how i shaded the lock and made the colors look blended.  Having the colors blended well helped the shadow in making it look like the light was coming from a certain direction.  Using the computer to develope new techniques in art is also something that makes this one of my favorite art projects.  Making the lock stretched out on the computer, and drawing it on paper to make it stand up i think was a good idea in making this project.  My overall success on this project i think was good and the way it comes off the page makes this my favorite project.

2. Having this project helped me learn certain skills needed throughout the whole semester.  Having this as one of our first project helped me understand things needed to continue throughout the class.  In almost every other project i was told to create value.  Making everything blend from light to dark can create this value and make the project look a lot better.  In this project, only using a pencil was a good way to start learning how to shade because i had to see darker and lighter without using other colors.  Putting more pressure on the pencil made it a darker shade as i did going into the chin and on the neck.  Adding value makes your project look better in creating a light source to everything you add value too.  Learning this in one of our first projects i think tought me a lot for future things we did.

3.The game drawing incorporated many techniques i learned from previous projects and activities.  Before this projcet we drew a town in perspective which helped me to draw this game.  Drawing it at a certain angle makes you have to draw it in perspective to make it look better and more realistic.  In this project we also introduced painting.  Painting with water colors in this was hard but it was another technique which helped the project look better in the end. Using color pencils on top of the paint helped the painting look better with water colors.  having to blend and create a light source with the color pencils was another technique used from previous projects.  we started off day one learning how to blend and create value in things that we draw.

4. The animal print project i think was the least important in learning the concepts in this course.  In most of the other projects i feel we were drawing something and using value and shading.  In this project our finished piece was not something drawn but something cut out.  This tought me things used to make things look better but not for other projects we did in this course.  I learned that spacing and having contrast between objects is important in fitting a picture in a small place. Knowing this made the project better but i do not think i used it otherwise throughout the course. I think some parts of the project were inmortant but not all.  Overrall this would be the project i think is least important.

5.  In painting i feel like you really get to express your style. You can either paint really detailed or abstract based on what kind of style you have in your artwork.  You can blend a lot of colors together and just keep using more colors and it could still look well and express your style of artwork. In my painting i tried blending many colors in almost all aspects of my painting.  I used a variety of greens in the ocean and used darker colors as the picture went farther into the distance.  I also liked making the clouds in this picture, because you can just make it up as you go, and just keep pressing your brush until you are happy with the way it looks.  with my sand i tried making a variety of oranges and yellows.  I went to a darker orange/ red towards one side and went with brighter yellows on the other to create a light source. I enjoyed blending the colors in the sand in this project as well.
